Kiosk App
Deploy your virtual being as a photorealistic Metahuman avatar on a physical kiosk installation using the Virbe Kiosk application.
Physical Kiosk Installations
Typical installations include retail stores, museums, hotels, airports, and event spaces – anywhere a virtual being needs a physical, in-person presence. Under the hood, the kiosk runs the Virbe Unreal Engine application on a dedicated Windows machine connected to a display and microphone.
See the Virbe Digital Signage product page for an overview of kiosk use cases and capabilities.
Metahuman Kiosk
The Metahuman Kiosk is the primary kiosk deployment option. It features:
- Photorealistic Metahuman avatars rendered in real time by Unreal Engine
- Voice interaction – the virtual being listens, speaks, and lip-syncs to its TTS voice output
- Hardware integration – connect RFID readers, barcode scanners, and other peripherals via serial port
- Camera-based presence detection – the
On face-detectedhandler fires when the camera detects a user approaching
Hardware Requirements
The Kiosk application requires a Windows PC with a capable GPU. Minimum and recommended specifications:
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | Intel Core i7-1165 or AMD equivalent | Intel Core i9 or AMD equivalent |
| GPU | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (6 GB GDDR6) | NVIDIA RTX 3060 (12 GB) or better |
| RAM | 16 GB | 64 GB |
| Storage | 128 GB SSD | 256 GB+ SSD |
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
If installing in a compact digital signage enclosure (self-standing kiosk), ensure the chosen PC fits the physical enclosure and has adequate thermal management for continuous 24/7 operation. Overheating is the most common cause of kiosk instability.
Recommended hardware options:
- Intel NUC Phantom Canyon – Compact size suitable for behind-screen installations. Meets minimum requirements. Gets warm under sustained load – monitor temperatures for 24/7 deployments.
- Intel NUC Dragon Canyon – High performance, compact. Suitable for premium installations.
- Gaming laptop – Portable and capable. Not recommended for permanent 24/7 installations due to cooling constraints.
- Mini tower or full PC – Best performance and cooling. Requires more physical space.
Apple Mac is not supported for the Metahuman Kiosk application.
Display and Peripherals
| Device | Notes |
|---|---|
| Display | Any display with HDMI/DisplayPort input. Large format (43"–75"+) is typical for kiosk installations. |
| Microphone | A directional or beamforming microphone is strongly recommended for public environments to minimize background noise. |
| Camera (optional) | Required for face detection (On face-detected handler). Any USB camera with a compatible Windows driver. |
| RFID/barcode scanner (optional) | Any scanner that connects via serial (COM) port and is supported by custom signal configuration in the profile settings. |
Setup Overview
- Set up hardware – Install the PC, display, microphone, and any optional peripherals (camera, scanner)
- Install the Virbe Kiosk application on the Windows PC
- Create a Metahuman Kiosk profile in the Dashboard and configure Settings
- Copy configuration link from the profile's Deployment tab
- Enter configuration linkt into the kiosk application's configuration screen
- Test – verify the virtual being loads, voice interaction works, and any hardware integrations function correctly
- Secure the kiosk – set a Security PIN in the profile settings if the installation is publicly accessible
For complete deployment configuration, see Metahuman Kiosk Deployment.
