Computer

GPU, CPU, RAM, and storage requirements for the Virbe Metahuman Kiosk application – with recommended hardware options.

The Virbe Kiosk application renders a photorealistic Metahuman avatar in real time using Unreal Engine. This places significant demands on the GPU. Choosing appropriate hardware is the most important factor in kiosk stability and visual quality.

GPU Requirements

The GPU is the most critical component. The Metahuman avatar rendering pipeline uses Unreal Engine's Lumen global illumination and Nanite geometry systems (or equivalents depending on the Kiosk app version), which require a modern NVIDIA GPU.

TierGPUSuitability
MinimumNVIDIA RTX 2060 (6 GB)Functional, may experience lower frame rates on complex scenes
RecommendedNVIDIA RTX 3060 (12 GB)Good performance for standard kiosk deployments
High performanceNVIDIA RTX 3080 / RTX 4070 or betterBest visual quality; recommended for premium installations

AMD GPUs are not officially supported. The Virbe Kiosk application has been validated on NVIDIA hardware only.

CPU Requirements

The CPU handles audio processing (STT, TTS), network communication, and the non-GPU portions of the rendering pipeline.

TierCPUNotes
MinimumIntel Core i7-1165 (4 cores, 8 threads)Functional but may show occasional audio/render stuttering under load
RecommendedIntel Core i7-12700 / i9-12900 or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X+Smooth performance across all components

RAM

MinimumRecommended
16 GB32–64 GB

16 GB is sufficient for basic operation. If the host machine runs additional background software (CRM integration, analytics agent, remote monitoring), 32 GB or more prevents memory pressure.

Storage

TypeMinimumNotes
System drive128 GB SSDThe Unreal Engine Kiosk app is large (~10–20 GB). An SSD is essential for acceptable load times.
Recommended256 GB+ NVMe SSDNVMe reduces application startup time and improves log/asset access speed

Intel NUC Phantom Canyon

A compact mini PC that meets minimum GPU requirements. The integrated GPU memory (6 GB) is sufficient for standard scenes. Suitable for behind-screen installations where physical space is limited.

Watch out for: The Phantom Canyon can run warm under sustained rendering load. Ensure the installation enclosure has adequate ventilation. Monitor temperatures during initial burn-in testing (72 hours minimum).

Intel NUC Dragon Canyon

Higher performance mini PC. Better sustained performance than Phantom Canyon. Good option for compact installations that need reliable 24/7 operation.

Gaming Laptop

A gaming laptop with an NVIDIA RTX 30- or 40-series GPU provides excellent performance and flexibility during setup and testing. Not recommended for permanent 24/7 installations due to cooling constraints designed for intermittent workloads.

Mini Tower or Full PC

Best performance and the most straightforward cooling. Requires more physical space behind or inside the display installation. Recommended for high-traffic, high-reliability deployments.

BIOS and Windows Settings for 24/7 Operation

To ensure the kiosk recovers automatically after power outages:

  1. BIOS → Power Management: Set "Restore on AC Power Loss" to Power On (also called "Restore Previous State" or similar depending on the motherboard)
  2. Windows → Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options: Set "Require sign-in" to Never for automatic login after restart
  3. Windows → Task Scheduler: Add the Virbe Kiosk app to launch at startup, or configure it to launch after user login
  4. Windows Update: Schedule updates for off-hours to prevent unexpected reboots during kiosk operating hours
