Screen
Display requirements and connection options for Virbe Metahuman Kiosk installations – size, resolution, orientation, and physical mounting.
The display is the most visible part of the kiosk. The Virbe Kiosk application renders the Metahuman avatar at full screen. Choose a display appropriate for the viewing distance and environment of your installation.
Display Requirements
| Specification | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Connection | HDMI or DisplayPort (the GPU must have the matching output) |
| Resolution | 1920×1080 minimum; 3840×2160 (4K) supported (higher resolution increases GPU load) |
| Orientation | Landscape or portrait (portrait is common for standing kiosk enclosures) |
| Brightness | 300+ nits for indoor environments; 500+ nits for high-ambient-light locations |
| Screen size | Typically 43"–75" for freestanding kiosks; smaller screens for counter-top or wall-mounted installations |
Consumer vs Commercial Displays
| Type | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial / signage displays | Rated for 16/7 or 24/7 continuous operation; higher brightness; often include anti-glare coating and remote management | Higher cost |
| Consumer TVs / monitors | Lower cost; widely available | Not rated for 24/7 operation; lower brightness; may show burn-in over time |
For permanent kiosk installations, commercial displays are strongly recommended. Consumer-grade TVs and gaming monitors are suitable for demos, events, and short-term deployments only.
Portrait Orientation
Many kiosk enclosures orient the display in portrait mode (vertical). To configure Windows for portrait display:
- Right-click the Windows desktop → Display settings
- Under Display orientation, select Portrait or Portrait (flipped) depending on your physical setup
- The Virbe Kiosk app renders at full screen in whatever orientation Windows is using – no additional configuration is needed
Multi-Display Considerations
The Virbe Kiosk app renders to a single display. If the host machine has multiple displays connected:
- In Windows Display Settings, designate the kiosk display as the primary display
- Configure the kiosk app to launch in full screen on the primary display
- If a secondary display is used for local monitoring or configuration access, keep it as a non-primary extended display
Connection and Cable Length
Long cable runs can introduce signal degradation. For display cables longer than 5 metres, use:
- Active HDMI cables – include a signal booster for runs up to 30 metres
- HDMI over Cat6/Cat7 – extenders using standard Ethernet cable, suitable for runs up to 100 metres
- DisplayPort over fibre – for very long runs in large installations
Always test the connection and verify resolution and refresh rate before finalising the installation.
Anti-Glare and Protective Glass
For installations in high-traffic public areas, consider adding protective front glass or an anti-glare film to the display. This protects against fingerprints, cleaning chemicals, and accidental damage, and improves readability in bright ambient light.
