If/Else Router

Branch the conversation based on a condition. The first matching branch is followed; if none match, the Else branch executes.

The If/Else Router evaluates one or more conditions and routes the conversation down the first branch whose condition is true. If no condition matches, the flow follows the Else branch.

It is the primary decision node for deterministic logic – use it anywhere you need the conversation to take different paths based on a variable value, message content, or other condition.

Available in: custom Conversational Flows and Automations.

Configuration

Add one or more If branches, each with one or more conditions. The node evaluates branches top to bottom and follows the first match. The Else branch is always last and catches any case where no If condition matched.

Multiple conditions per branch

Within a single If branch, add multiple conditions joined by AND (all must be true) or OR (any must be true).

Tips

  • Order your branches from most specific to least specific – the first match wins.
  • The Else branch is required and cannot be removed. Always design it to handle unexpected inputs gracefully.
  • For complex multi-branch routing on a known set of values, Route by Signal may be cleaner than a long If/Else chain.
  • For AI-powered intent classification, use Intent Matcher.
