Checkpoint
Mark a point in a flow that the conversation can return to on the next user turn, resuming from that exact position.
The Checkpoint node marks a resumption point in a flow. When the pipeline hits a Checkpoint, it pauses and waits for the next user input. On the next turn, execution resumes from the node immediately following the Checkpoint – not from the beginning of the flow.
Available in: Conversational Flows
Why it exists
By default, each user turn runs through the full Handler and Flow routing logic from the beginning. If you're building a multi-step interaction inside a single flow (a form, a step-by-step guide, a quiz), you normally need Variables and Check Variable nodes to remember where the user is and branch accordingly.
Checkpoint provides an alternative: explicitly mark "pick back up here next turn," so the flow resumes mid-execution without you having to manage state manually.
Configuration
The Checkpoint node has no configuration fields. Place it at any point in the flow where you want to pause and wait for the next user message.
Example: a two-step form
[Text: "What is your name?"]
→ [Checkpoint] ← pauses; waits for user input
→ [Store Variable: user.name = last message]
→ [Text: "Nice to meet you, {{user.name}}! What's your email?"]
→ [Checkpoint] ← pauses again
→ [Store Variable: user.email = last message]
→ [Text: "Got it – I'll follow up at {{user.email}}."]
→ [End Flow]Each Checkpoint pauses and waits. The user's reply on the next turn is available as the "last message" for the subsequent Store Variable node.
Checkpoints are reset when the flow ends
Ending a flow resets its currently active checkpoints. When the flow terminates – for example via an End Flow node, or by reaching the end of the flow – any pending resumption point is discarded. The next user message will not resume from a checkpoint; it goes through the normal Handler and Flow routing from the beginning.
In the example above, the final End Flow clears the flow's checkpoints once the form is complete – so a later user message starts a fresh pass through the pipeline rather than resuming inside the finished form.
Flow Control Nodes
Flow control nodes manage how execution moves between flows – redirecting, pausing, checkpointing, and ending flows or conversations.
End Conversation
Explicitly terminates the current conversation session, triggering the End Conversation automation and the On conversation-stop handler.
