Delay

Pauses flow execution for a specified duration before continuing to the next node.

The Delay node pauses flow execution for a configured number of seconds before moving to the next node. Use it to control the pacing of a conversation, wait for a background process, or create natural breathing room between responses.

Configuration

Delay for

Set the pause duration as a number plus a unit (e.g. Second). The node has a single output port, After delay, which fires once the pause is over.

When to Use

  • Paced responses – Add a short delay between a series of text responses to make the conversation feel more natural, rather than sending all messages at once
  • Loading states – If a webhook or external call takes time, insert a delay with a "please wait" message before the response arrives
  • Staged reveals – Show one card or message, pause, then show the next

Typical Pattern

Text ("Let me check that for you...")
    │
    └──► Delay (2 seconds)
             │
             └──► Call Webhook (fetch data)
                      │
                      └──► Text (display result)

Delays are measured in wall-clock seconds. Very long delays (e.g., 10+ seconds) can feel unnatural to users. If you need to wait for a long-running process, consider using a webhook with an async callback rather than a long Delay node.
